save the planet

i watched some of the live earth concerts yesterday. i saw genesis, duran duran, melissa etheridge, the very end of fallout boy (which seemed really cool), the black eyed peas, akon (is that right?), blue man group, a tiny bit of john mayer, and the foo fighters. blue man group was hillarious. they had an airline stewardess' voice reminding us that there aren't any emergency exits from planet earth. but my favorite performance was, of course, the foo fighters. dave grohl played about three quarters of 'everlong' solo - just him and his guitar - and then the band rocked in behind him to finish it up. overall it seemed to be a good idea to raise awareness for global ecological issues, but some of the bands were a bit preachy (melissa etheridge went on a 15-minute diatribe while her band jammed in the background). what they were saying was true, but not every artist needed to give their full unabridged speech, in my opinion.

i'm very sad that i missed the police and spinal tap. i guees i'll have to wait for the dvd.
