the last two movies i have seen are amazing grace, the story of william wilberforce, the english parliamentarian who worked tirelessly to get the UK to abolish the slave trade, and the pick of destiny, the latest from rock gods tenacious d. quite a contrast, i know.
i have to agree with several friends' review of amazing grace in that the music was just standard strings that came up in all of the appropriate emotional places. and it was too nice. i think a movie about the fight against the brutality of slavery should show some actual slavery. we need to remember just how horrible it was.
watching the d was everything i thought it would be - and less. i liked it, and it was funny, but it wasn't extremely funny. even so, i have to say that jack black is a genius, at least for the fact that he gets to act like an idiot and get paid some fat dollars. one of the highlights was ben stiller's role as a guitar salesman from guitar center.
