007 for MLK
of all the things i could have done for the MLK holiday, i chose to go and see the new james bond movie, "casino royale." it was great, and really made me want to live a life as a government agent, with all the intrigue and excitement. this is in great contrast to MLK's book "strength to love" (which is one of my favorites of all time). i recommend this book to everyone. until reading the book, i had always assumed that MLK was solely focused on human rights, but what i discovered was a man who was first of all a christian with a desire to bring peace in the name of Christ. it seems that his work in the civil rights movement was just one aspect of his overall vision. who then should i work to emulate, 007 or MLK? is it more desirable to be the purposely emotionless, independent, almost untouchable 007, or the MLK who works for something nonviolently, at the risk (and ultimate sacrifice) of his life?
